NEW! Effective January 1, 2011, School Tuition Organizations cannot award, restrict or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of a donor’s recommendation. A taxpayer may not claim a tax credit if the taxpayer agrees to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit either taxpayer’s own dependent.
NEW! Contributions, made on or before April 15, may be applied to either the current or preceding taxable year and are considered to have been made on the last day of that taxable year. Donor is responsible for indicating which tax year donation is to be credited.
Scholarships of $316,190 were awarded through SAFE Lutheran contributions in 2008. The average scholarship of $1605.03 would not have been possible without the generosity of 477 donors.
